Upon the Doorposts of Thy House: Jewish Life in East-Central Europe, Yesterday and Today
This is a multidimensional portrait of the centuries-old Jewish world of East-Central Europe, as it once was and what remains of it today. Excerpts from oral histories, poetry, literary reflections, original interviews and photographs produce a rich tapestry of a vanished world. The author describes the homes, synagogues and workplaces, as well as the practices and beliefs which comprised the Jewish world of East-Central Europe for hundreds of years until the Holocaust. Countries included in the region are the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and Hungary.
