They were refugees from death, rescued from the distant past and futures unforeseen. From every land the Oracle had gathered them and governed them in Mera, whose high walls kept out time and death and hell-spawned demons.
But then the Oracle sent Jerry back out, on a rescue mission. He recruited Killer, a 400-year-old juvenile delinquent from ancient Greece. Killer was a violent, lecherous braggart, but his fighting skills were legendary, even OUtside.
Beyond Mera's magical North Gate, Jerry and Killer found an empty farmhouse on a high plain, some time after the invention of radio but before the laser pistol. Ariadne, the woman they were to rescue came seeking shelter for her children.
Children! But children couldn't enter Mera. And Jerry's mission began to fall apart, as Mera's vengeful demon enemies closed in...
