The Handbook for Raising an Emotionally Healthy Child is an easy-to-read book that helps parents understand and manage the intricate relationship among the three pieces of the parenting Behavior Management, Attention, and Love. Each chapter concludes with practical activities that parents can use to put each component into practice in their daily lives. In the first section, parents learn about the relationship that exists between children's development and their behavior. A recurring theme in this section is that parents must learn to replace punishment with teaching. Section Two focuses on improving parent/child interactions. The activities at the end of each chapter in Section Two are aimed at helping parents use attention as a tool to improve relationships with their children rather than just a reward for good behavior. In the final section, we re-examine what it means to love our children. We believe parents will find this section particularly useful. Virtually all parents profess a deep and abiding love for their children. But love alone is not enough. Love must be given in synchrony with attention and behavior management.
